Sermons on Colossians

Barge Vision 2023

Colossians 1:3-14 The Barge’s mission is not just to put on services, but that people might be ‘delivered from death in the domain of darkness for life and growth in kingdom of Christ’. That’s what we’re here for. The point of this talk is to unpack this mission statement so we understand it, are inspired by it, and commit to it.

Work Matters

The Average person will spend a third of their adult life at work, in the Wharf it is likely to be more, as Christians there can sometimes be a disconnect between what happens on a Sunday morning at church and the rest of the week – Why does our work matter to God? Why does God matter to our work?

Thanksgiving

Colossians 2:7 ‘Daddy, I want another pony’, proclaims Veruca Salt,in the film ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. She’s the archetypal spoilt brat – but sometimes we may be closer to her than we may like to think, instead of overflowing with thanksgiving.

Fullness in Christ: Proclaim Christ Jesus

Colossians 1:24-2:5 This is all about ‘proclaiming the gospel’. In v23 and again in v25 we learn it was because of Christ Jesus and his gospel that Paul does what he does. There is power in the gospel, and the mystery is revealed that the gospel is available to all! God is the one who reveals mysteries and truth, and God has revealed his plan for salvation to the Gentiles – through Jesus, we can be his children. And this message is spread when those who hear the gospel, tell others the gospel.

When we consider our own lives, whether we’re working, studying, staying at home, retired, unemployed, we are servants of Jesus Christ – are we proclaiming the gospel?
