Today we find ourselves in the house of mourning, preparing for a state funeral. As well as a time to give thanks, it is a time to reflect on our own mortality and on what lies beyond.

The wise learn from history. And if we are wise we will do the same as we reflect on the mother of all so-called ‘natural disasters’ – the Flood that destroyed the ancient world in the days of Noah.
